# GURU - PAMM for Defi

> Guru is a delegated fund management protocol for defi, drawing heavy inspiration from the PAMM investment model from Forex.

### So, what is PAMM? <a href="#so-what-is-pamm" id="so-what-is-pamm"></a>

The **PAMM (Percentage Allocation Management Module)** model is a system where investors pool their money together to be managed by an experienced trader or fund manager. Each investor's contribution to the pool is proportional, and any profits from the trades are distributed based on how much each investor put in. The fund manager earns a share of the profits, aligning their success with the investors’ returns. This allows investors to benefit from the manager’s expertise without having to make trading decisions themselves.

### Guru - PAMM for Defi <a href="#guru-pamm-for-defi" id="guru-pamm-for-defi"></a>

Guru is one of the first to bring this model to defi and is bringing it to multiple chains. This will allow defi users to benefit from one of the most popular Forex systems.

The PAMM model has immense benefits for both fund managers and investors. Fund members benefit from the trading techniques and knowledge of the fund manager, while the fund manager trades with larger size while simultaneously earning a cut of all profits from the fund.

Becoming a fund manager is very beneficial for influencers and public figures by giving them an opportunity to prove their PNL and share profits directly with their followers, or for experienced traders wishing to trade with larger capital.

# How Guru Works

<figure><img src="/files/iKzMwmLqoHP1JzKKpmx6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Gurus / Fund Managers

Fund managers create a fund via the UI which allows other users to join by contributing base chain currency (ETH, SOL, etc). Once funds are contributed, the fund manager is able to trade on behalf of the fund investors.

The UI will have its own swap interface utilizing Jupiter and Uniswap protocols. Fund managers will only be able to trade via the platform itself.

When investors in the fund withdraw any profits, a portion of those profits are shared directly with the Fund Manager.

Managers are able to link their twitter accounts, add banners and descriptions, and other information to the fund profile in order to help show their legitimacy.

***

## Investors

Investors are able to browse funds and choose where to allocate their funds. When they enter a fund, they are given a % allocation of the fund, and at any moment in the future, they can withdraw their allocation by liquidating their allocation.

{% hint style="info" %}
A 1% fee is collected on entry.
{% endhint %}

# Fund Tokens

Fund tokens are minted upon fund creation and represent share ownership for each holder in the fund. They are ERC20 tokens but non-transferrable — external liquidity pools cannot be opened for them.

{% hint style="info" %}
A user holding fund tokens can trade them back in to withdraw their portion of the fund's current TVL at any time, provided their fund tokens are not on cooldown. Fund tokens are burnt when they are traded back in.
{% endhint %}

# Fee Structure

## Amount

* Fund Creation: $100 — 100% buy back + burn $GURU

## Fund creation

* Minimum deposit: $100
* The minimum deposit is fully withdrawable later minus the $100 burn fee.

## Deposit

* Fee: 1%
  * Allocation: ½ burn $GURU, ½ Vault
* Discount: If holding 50k $GURU, fee is 0.5%

## Withdrawal

* Fee: 20% on profits only
  * Allocation: ¼ burn $GURU, ½ Fund Manager (Guru), ¼ Vault
* Discount: If holding 50k $GURU, fee is reduced by 25%
* Discount: If the fund holds 5% of its asset weight or more in $GURU, additional 25% reduced fee

## Management Fee

* 2% yearly
  * Allocation: ½ Fund Manager (Guru), ½ Vault

## Swaps

* Swaps incur a 0.2% spread.

# Fund PNL, TVL, and Price

A fund's PNL (Profit and Loss) indicates the fund's overall performance, and is determined by the price movements of the underlying assets held in the fund.

A fund's TVL (Total Value Locked) is the combined dollar amount of all assets in the fund.

### Fund Token Price

Fund tokens are all minted at $1 upon fund creation, and increase or decrease in price depending on the performance of the underlying assets, irrespective of TVL.

Example:

```
The starting capital in X fund is $500, and the starting token price is $1. John enters the fund by depositing $1000, but the assets in the fund have not increased or decreased in price, so the token price remains $1 while the TVL is now $2000. The assets in the fund increase in value by 50%, so the token price increases to $1.5, with a new TVL of $3000.
```

# Fund Creation

### Becoming a Guru

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Start the Guru signup flow

Go to: <https://guru.fund/becomeaguru>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Pay the fund opening fee

A wallet address can become a Guru as long as the fund opening fee is paid.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Provide starting capital

You must provide enough starting capital for the fund.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

When a fund is created, a token representing the fund is created. New investors into the fund are minted tokens of the fund proportionate to their allocation amount.

| Asset Restrictions | If specified, the fund manager will only be allowed to trade the listed assets. | Asset restrictions are available to enable fund managers to create "safer" funds. A default fund allows trading any asset and is inherently high risk. |

{% hint style="warning" %}
Asset restrictions limit which assets a fund manager may trade. Specifying restrictions is intended to enable creation of "safer" funds. Default (no restrictions) funds may trade any asset and are inherently higher risk.
{% endhint %}

# At-Will Fee Harvesting

The Guru of a fund is able to collect fees based on the profits they have earned for the depositors at any moment. When harvested, a "high watermark" is applied to the fund at the token price that fees were harvested at.

In order for the Guru to harvest fees again, price needs to be above the current high watermark, and if a user withdraws their tokens in profit below where the current high watermark is, they will not pay any fees as the fees were already collected.\
\
At-Will Fee Harvesting enables the Gurus to get paid for their performance and lock in profits for themselves, rather than having to wait for users to withdraw in order to get compensated.\
\

# Holder Benefits

The $GURU token is interconnected with the Guru Platform and utilities will continue to be added for the token holders.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="For the User" %}
-Hold 50k $GURU for reduced deposit fees from 1% to .5%

-Hold 50k $GURU for reduced profit share rate by 25%
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="For the Guru" %}
Hold 5% or more of the funds asset weight in $GURU to:\
-Reduce fund holders' profit share fee by 25% (forfeiting the protocol's share)\
-Be entitled to collecting management fees (2% of fund TVL annually, collected as shares of the fund)
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

# Promotions

Gurus and users are able to promote any fund to have it appear on the main page, in the "Promoted" section. $GURU is used for each promotion.

### How it Works<br>

Funds are ranked in the promoted section by amount of $GURU spent.

* Spend some $GURU to promote a fund for 24H
* Spend some more $GURU to keep the fund in the promoted section, resetting the 24H expiration timer
* Upon expiration of a promotion, 75% of $GURU accumulated is burnt, and 25% is awarded to the most recent promoter

This mechanism incentivizes users to continue refreshing the pot, while allocating most of the pot to burning $GURU.

Example:

1. Bob uses 5000 $GURU to promote $BOB fund, and now there are 5000 $GURU waiting to be burnt after 24H.
2. Alice uses 3000 $GURU to promote $BOB fund, now reaching an accumulated 8000 $GURU to be burnt after 24H from Alice's promotion.
3. No one promotes the fund for 24H. Alice is awarded 2000 $GURU tokens, and 6000 $GURU is burnt.

Funds can be promoted via their respective fund page.

# Roadmap

Roadmap items subject to change as the team is continuously adjust and pivoting based on market state and project growth.

<details>

<summary>Rebrand</summary>

Guru to be rebranded to a more professional aesthetic and tone.

</details>

<details>

<summary>P2P</summary>

If a Guru is holding large positions, it is difficult for them to exit them gracefully without "causing a scene", since so many people are sensitive to when the sells impact the respective project charts.

To alleviate this, we are incorporating an in-house P2P solution which will give Gurus the ability to offload tokens to buyers at a small discount off market price, as well as the ability to accept offers that any user places on tokens that are held in a fund. This will give our Gurus much more flexibility in how they enter and exit their positions.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Dashboard</summary>

With the Guru Dashboard, we will offer a specialized view just for the Gurus, giving them a one-stop shop for researching tokens, managing their fund settings, and placing trades.

Think of it as the Guru's battle station, with the intention being to give them very little reason to have to leave the dapp for both research and trading.

</details>

<details>

<summary>White Label</summary>

A unique solution to support projects or independent Gurus wishing to have their own fund(s), on their own website, with their own branding, powered by the Guru protocol. This opens Guru up to bringing on new types of clients.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Lotus </summary>

Lotus platform upgrade to be permissionless and extendable. This will be a large architectural upgrade, bringing new features to the platform.

With Lotus complete, we will have reached a point where we've set things up enough vertically, and we will subsequently move fast horizontally to get it on as many EVM chains as possible.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Staking</summary>

A unique staking solution using our own existing fund and holder system.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Expand to more L2/L1 Chains</summary>

Pending the Lotus release, we will go on as many EVM chains as possible. Research also underway to reach other L1's.

</details>

<details>

<summary>MISC</summary>

More roadmaps are being discussed, including possible more advanced / professional trading features.

When a user deposits ETH into your fund, that ETH is distributed to all of the assets in the fund and buys the charts of each token. In exchange, they are minted the fund tokens which represent their share ownership of the fund.

Similarly, when a user exits the fund, they will liquidate their % portion of the fund across all fund assets proportionate to their weight in the fund, and their fund tokens will be burnt.

The only exception is if the buy on any of the tokens does not increase the TVL for that particular asset by more than 3%, then the ETH for that purchase will be added to the fund instead as WETH.

Buys that do not increase the token allocation value by more than 3% are not executed, and instead the ETH for those token purchases are added to the fund as WETH. This is to keep the deposit transactions as efficient as possible.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How can a user withdraw their allocation from my fund?</summary>

A user holding your fund token must click “withdraw”, which prompts them to send their fund tokens back in to get burnt, in exchange for their share of the TVL.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I move tokens out of the fund as the Guru?</summary>

No, the only functions you have access to as the Guru are depositing assets, trading assets, and closing the fund.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How is the token price calculated?</summary>

All funds are created with a starting price of 1$. The token price increases as the assets in the fund increase in value, irrespective of fund TVL.

For example, if a fund has a TVL of $1000, and a new investor enters with another $1000, but the assets did not increase or decrease in value, then the TVL is now $2000 but the token price is still $1. If asset increase in value by 50%, then the token price will be $1.50 and the TVL will be $3000.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I manually add ERC20 tokens to the fund?</summary>

Yes, you can simply select any ERC20 token to deposit into the fund in the deposit form. Instead of distributing WETH to all assets in the fund, it will simply add those ERC20 tokens to the fund’s assets/holdings.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What is the withdrawal cooldown?</summary>

The withdrawal cooldown is the time an investor needs to wait in order to withdraw their allocation. Each cooldown is treated separately, per swap.

If you update the cooldown, it only affects new users who enter the fund.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How do I top my fund up with more ETH?</summary>

Simply deposit more Wrapped ETH into the fund. Depositing ETH distributes it to all assets in the fund, while depositing WETH counts as an ERC20 deposit and it won’t distribute it.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I close deposits for my fund, but keep trading open?</summary>

If you want to limit deposits on your fund, you can update the minimum deposit to a very high value ($100b+), that can only get filled by Elon. In the future, we will handle this more elegantly, so you can continue trading once you feel your fund has reached a target you have set.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What happens if I close my fund?</summary>

Closing your prohibits trading for the fund from that moment forward. All users will be able to withdraw their allocation from the fund even after the fund has been closed.

</details>

<details>

<summary>As the Guru, can I withdraw my own allocation from the fund?</summary>

Yes, however we will display the the users if the Guru has liquidated their own fund tokens.

# The User FAQ

<details>

<summary>How do I know which funds are performing well?</summary>

<summary>How do I pick a good fund manager?</summary>

Anyone can be a fund manager by providing the minimum deposit and paying the fund opening fee, so it is very important for users to do their due diligence and research the fund managers.

We allow managers to update the description for their fund and update their own profile bio to share a bit about how they plan to manage the fund. Additionally, Gurus are able to authenticate their wallet address with a twitter profile, linking that twitter to their profile on the dapp. This can give you assurance that the person running the fund is the same person running the connected twitter profile.

It's advised to pick Guru's that provide as much information as possible for you to gauge their legitimacy and skill level
